My point is that nowadays you can get away with far less blackout than
previously. Our first data projector, a Sharp XG-3850 was good for
something like 400 Ansi-lumens (despite being massive and costing
7000quid!), which was just about adequate in the average lecture
theatre. Nowadays, few are less than 1100 which really is a massive
improvement.

Well yes, but those are rather special cases...
