I agree Yahoogroups aren't quite as user friendly as ngs, but it's not true
that you have to go looking on the website for messages every time you want
to read the group. You can receive individual messages by email, or a daily
digest (I don't recommend these as it gets confusing and people rarely snip
out the irrelevant stuff). You can set your email programme to filter them
all into a folder to keep them seperate from the rest of your mail, and
reply to them offline just as you can an ng. No threading though, IIRC, and
you have to remember to delete old messages yourself. There will be a
yahoogroups advert at the bottom of every message, but it's not too
obtrusive if everyone remembers to snip them out when replying.

Not brilliant, but better than you may be thinking.
