Also as a member of the original ANSI/ISO C standards committee (X3J11 when it
was an ANSI committee), I learned there that for the 3 offical languages of ISO
(English, French, and Russian), that the standards organization specifically is
not an acronym of ISO (hence International Organization for Standardization,
instead of the simpler International Standards Organization), since if it were
an acronym in English but not in French, it might imply some superiority of
English to French.
