Depends on the camera. The ones designed for the photojournalist
market have big enough buffers to shoot lots of pictures very fast.
Look at the specs for the Nikon D1h, for example -- I believe that's
40 pictures at 5 frames per second.

For fast action, you need the pro-level cameras for their auto-focus
ability (both film and digital) and speed (more for digital than film,
but there's a difference in film cameras too.

The consumer non-interchangeable-lens digicams will nearly all be
completely hopeless for fast action (at least by professional
standards).
